Keynote Speakers
The Social and Political Inequalities Research Cluster is delighted to present the two Keynote Speakers for our upcoming Conference.
Nicole Martin
Dr Nicole Martin is a Senior Research Officer based in the
Institute for Social and Economic Research Policy Unit at the University of
Essex. She has researched and published extensively on ethnic minorities and
their political mobilisation and participation in the UK. Recent publications
include “Do Ethnic Minority Candidates Mobilise Ethnic Minority Voters?
Evidence from the 2010 UK General Election” in Parliamentary Affairs. Nicole
also publishes blog posts on the ISER website, most recently titled “Do ethnic
minority candidates mobilise ethnic minority voters? Mostly not.”.
Patrick Williams
Dr Patrick Williams is a Senior Lecturer in the Department
of Sociology at Manchester Metropolitan University. He has undertaken research
and published in the area of 'race', diversity and difference with a particular
focus on 'race' disproportionality and differential treatment within the
Criminal Justice System. Most recently, he jointly published Dangerous Associations: joint enterprise,
gangs and racism.(with Becky Clarke).
This research report explores the complex, yet misconstrued association
of black people (police) identified as involved with serious violence, which
drives the imposition of harsh collective punishments and lengthy custodial
sentences. Patrick has been involved in the design, delivery and dissemination
of research and evaluation projects for 20 years. He has undertaken work
for local and national voluntary and charitable organisations (VCS) and
criminal justice statutory organisations.
We are delighted to have these two speakers at the
conference.
